Compass Course Challenge

Find your own way and learn orienteering. You will be provided a compass that you can keep and instructions to help you find each checkpoint. Participate at the following locations:

It’s important to learn how to use and read a compass in case you get lost and need to find your way back. It can also help you give others directions or find someone or something. Before you get started with your Compass Course Challenge, learn about the following:

  1. What is a compass?
  2. What and where are the cardinal directions
  3. How to read a map
  4. How to use and read a compass.
  5. What is a bearing and how to take a bearing?
  6. What should you do if you get lost in the mountains, forest, or any other place?

Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices such as a smart phone. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Find all Denver Public Library Geocaches and Win a Geocoin!
